Safari at Solio Game Reserve or Solio Ranch
a safari in Solio Game Reserve or Solio Ranch : only a 10 minute drive from Glamping Kenya Lodge - hotel in Nanyuki
- Solio Ranch or Solio Game Reserve is a privately owned wildlife sanctuary.
- Solio Ranch is a fenced, privately protected area focused on rhino conservation.
- a safari at Solio Ranch offers visitors rhinos living in harmony with other wildlife, including lions, cheetahs, buffaloes, zebras and giraffes.
- The park also boasts some of the country's best leopards and is an ideal place for bird watching.
guests can also be taken to a safari in Solio Game reserve, for guided hikes and to explore the plains on horseback.
- Solio Conservancy is home to more than 200 black and white rhinoceroses living in a 19,000-acre wildlife sanctuary.
- During a safari in Solio Game Conservancy, visitors are also sure to spot several big cats and the big four (there are no elephants in this park), including lions, cheetahs and leopards.
- The wildlife is plentiful making for easy and plentiful sightings. It also means that you don't have to rush right away, unless of course you really want to! Spend time with the large numbers of black and white rhinos and spot four of the 'big five' (there are no elephants in Solio as they have been purposely barred to preserve vegetation for the endangered black rhino). Reticulated giraffes, moose, waterbuck, lions, leopards, cheetahs and many other species can all be seen.
The reserve at Solio Ranch (aka Solio Game Reserve) on the Laikipia Plateau was established in 1970 as a breeding ground for black and white rhinoceroses. This has been very successful and many of these rhinos have been moved to other reserves and other parks the small park is literally full of rhinos and a number of other safari animals have also been introduced.
- Regarding birdlife: More than 350 species have been observed on the Laikipia Plateau – it is a great birding destination with many Northern Kenya bird species. Little research has been done on bird species and populations in the area, so more species may be present. Solio Ranch is not really set up as a birding destination, but private game drives and guided walks can be arranged for bird watchers.
On the Laikipia Plateau and in during a safari in Solio Ranch, we offer good bird watching all year round. The best time for bird watchers is from November to April when the migratory birds from Europe and North Africa can be seen. This partly coincides with the wet season, when many species breed in breeding plumage.
Enjoy your safari in Solio Game Conservancy.
